• Symptom relief may start within minutes of an initial IV infusion of ketamine therapy.  For others, noticeable relief from symptoms may not start after a few sessions.  
• Studies have shown that repeated doses of IV ketamine therapy work best.  For the maximum effectiveness and the longest lasting effects, we recommend 6 IV sessions of ketamine therapy over a 3-week period. 
• Relief of symptoms from microdosing ketamine is typically slower when compared to an IV treatment, however, some patients have reported noticeable symptom improvements within the first few days of starting microdosing. 

• Ketamine side effects are generally mild and well tolerated.

• While side effects may differ from patient to patient, the most common side effects are brief elevations in blood pressure and nausea.  Nausea can be easily treated with antiemetics, or anti-nausea medications on the spot.  Blood pressure elevations are short lived and normalize soon after the ketamine treatment if completed. 
• We ask that a responsible adult of the patient’s choosing to be close by during each ketamine therapy session.  Patients should not drive themselves home from an IV or intranasal treatment due to possible drowsiness and dissociation after a treatment session.

• Ketamine has also been shown to be effective in treating personality disorders, eating disorders, and in end-of-life preparedness and acceptance.  
• As an anesthetic, ketamine has also been shown to effectively treat chronic pain.  
• Ketamine is contraindicated in individuals with uncontrolled high blood pressure, certain severe heart diseases, bladder disease, drug dependence, schizophrenia, and active mania or manic episodes.  

• Ketamine has been hypothesized to re-balance the reabsorption and availability of the neurotransmitter NMDA (N-methyl-D-aspartate), as well as promoting regulation of BDNF (brain derived neurotrophic factor) and mTORC1 (mechanistic target of rapamycin 1).  In other words, ketamine resets your brain’s chemistry back to its normal state in order to fight mental health disorders.  
• Ketamine promotes neuroplasticity, or the brain’s ability to “re-wire,” or change and adapt.  Mental health disorders have been shown to alter the anatomy and neuro-connections of the brain.  Ketamine promotes the brain’s ability to change back to its normal state by reconnecting the damaged neuro-connections and altered brain structures.  
• Treatment is administered in several ways, including IV ketamine infusions, intramuscular ketamine therapy, sublingual or oral ketamine, and intranasal spray ketamine.

• AVYIA’s Ketamine therapy and IV infusion protocol is safe, well tolerated, and effective.   

• Ketamine starts working immediately, typically within the first treatment session.   Conventional mental health medications and psychotherapy alone may take weeks or even months to start taking effect.  
• Conventional mental health medications, such as antidepressants, anti-psychotics, mood stabilizers, and benzodiazepines, have a higher risk of serious unwanted side effects.
• Adherence to conventional mental health medicines is generally poor.  This is due to a higher side effect profile, longer time to see results, and a slow titration process to find out what works, and what doesn’t. 
• Many patients suffering from mental disorders are on multiple drugs for their disorder. 

• Ketamine therapy may induce  psychedelic experiences or out of body experiences, called a dissociative effect.  These experiences typically are calming, thus we encourage our patients to be open to the full experience of the journey that ketamine provides.  
• While experiences may differ from individual to individual, most experiences are positive.  Some may experience the “jitters,” or mild anxiousness during their therapy.  Anxiousness usually dissipates soon after the ketamine infusion is completed.   We recommend listening to soothing music, having your favorite blanket on, and closing your eyes for the most positive experience.  

• It is common to have psychedelic experiences or dissociative experiences (out of body) during your ketamine therapy sessions.  These effects disappear several hours after the ketamine therapy infusion is completed.

• We encourage the use of Ketamine Assisted Therapy, where each ketamine treatment session is guided by a licensed psychotherapist.  AVYIA offers IV ketamine treatment infusions alone or with Ketamine Assisted Therapy. 

• Although ketamine starts working with completion of the first treatment session, studies have shown that multiple treatments in succession provide the best and longest lasting effects.  

• AVYIA offers 3 treatment packages, and encourages patients to add Ketamine Assisted Therapy with a licensed therapist for optimal results:

1. 6 sessions of intravenous ketamine therapy, delivered over 3 weeks.  Each week consists of two ketamine therapy sessions.
2. 8 sessions on intranasal ketamine over 4 weeks.  Intranasal ketamine is sprayed into the nostrils and requires a clinician at bedside. 
3. Microdosing daily with ketamine.  As the name suggestions, patients take ketamine in an oral sublingual tablet until they achieve disease remission.  This requires an AVYIA clinician’s care and monitoring

• Each IV or intranasal  session takes approximately 2.5 – 3 hours.
• After an IV or intranasal ketamine treatment program, we offer single maintenance IV sessions on an as needed basis, should symptoms relapse.  Not all patients relapse. 
• Oftentimes, patients experience complete remission of their mental health disorders after a course of ketamine therapy.  We will follow up with patients after treatment is completed.  We love to hear from our patients and their inspirational success stories.

• Ketamine Assisted Therapy has been shown by research to enhance the mental health benefits of IV ketamine treatments.  
• For maximum mental health results, AVYIA encourages and offers Ketamine Assisted Therapy in combination with IV Ketamine therapy.  

• Ketamine Assisted Therapy involves a trained psychotherapist that guides patients in their ketamine journey and road to recovery.  

• Compared to other routes of administration, IV ketamine is superior in its effectiveness, absorption of the drug, and safety.   IV ketamine’s safety is also due to the fact that the drug’s administration is regulated via an IV pump, which delivers a smooth and consistent flow of the drug, easily stopped if needed.  Having IV access also affords the patient to immediately receive additional medications, such as nausea medicine to treat side effects.      

• Prior to scheduling your ketamine treatments, one of our AVYIA clinicians will complete a short intake over the phone to see if ketamine therapy is suitable for you.  After your intake is completed, we will then schedule your ketamine treatment(s). 
• A doctor or nurse practitioner will show up to your home for your scheduled appointments.
• Your doctor will perform an assessment before starting your treatment.  Administration and completion of your ketamine infusion therapy typically takes 40 minutes for and IV treatment, and several minutes for a nasal spray treatment.  You will then be monitored for an hour or two after your ketamine therapy is completed.  The entire appointment typically takes about 2.5 to 3 hours.  
• For IV administration; In the rare event that an IV is not able to be placed, you will have the option to receive your treatment through an intramuscular injection, or shot in the arm.  The effectiveness of intramuscular ketamine shots is similar to that of intravenous ketamine infusions.  

• For the best experience, please select a room that is free from loud noises or distractions.
• Ideally, your sessions should take place on a comfortable couch, recliner, or bed.  Having blankets and comfortable clothes will enhance your experience.  
• During your experience, we recommend listening to music in your playlist that is calming or relaxing.  We also offer our own selection of music if you desire.  
• We recommend your first ketamine session to be experienced alone in the room, with a responsible adult nearby.  Should individuals request family members and friends to be in the room, they should do so with minimal distractions to the patient.  
• Your doctor will check up on you every so often.  You will have your blood pressure taken before your session starts, once in the middle, and another after your session ends.  
• You should avoid driving or any activities that could lead to injury after your ketamine sessions until the effects wear off.  Patients are legally impaired immediately after their sessions, but the effects typically wear off the same evening.  

• Most insurances have not yet started reimbursing ketamine treatments for mental health.  We will assist with checking your insurance to see if coverage or reimbursement is available.
• Ketamine for the treatment of mental health disorders is still considered off-labeled, and thus may require out of pocket costs.
